In a festive atmosphere last night, HRH Prince Paul of Romania gave the opening speech at Business Arena’s 2014 edition of the Most Admired Business Women Awards.

In the presence of more than 150 business people, bankers, entrepreneurs and diplomats, Business Arena announced the winners of these prestigious awards, recognizing the creativity and leadership of women in the workplace and their vital contribution to the success of business and banking activities throughout Romania.
The event was hosted by the Crowne Plaza hotel and was organized in partnership with Domo Retail, Garanti Bank, Helvetansa, Swiss Ecodent, CorporateBaskets, Adina Buzatu, Karmen Herscovici, Geta Voinea Saloane and Beauty One.

Gender equality has seen much progress in recent decades and women are now well represented at all education levels and they have tested their skill, determination and creativity in many professional paths and business sectors. On this note, Business Arena Magazine is proud to recognize the achievements and success of the ladies that make a difference in business.

Business women take center stage

The proportion of women holding the top jobs around the world remains at just under a quarter, new research from the Grant Thornton International Business Report (IBR) has revealed. The survey finds growing support for regulation around quotas to get women onto boards, but also several measures that businesses can take to facilitate the careers paths of women.
The report shows that, globally, the proportion of senior roles filled by women in 2014 is 24 per cent. This is exactly the same proportion as 2013, 2009 and 2007, and only five per cent higher than the 19 per cent recorded ten years ago in 2004. Regionally, there has been very little significant change over the past decade with Eastern Europe (37 per cent), southeast Asia (35 per cent) and China (38 per cent) leading the way. Japan (nine per cent), India and the United Arab Emirates (both 14 per cent) continue to prop up the table.
Francesca Lagerberg, global leader for tax services at Grant Thornton, said: “That greater diversity in decision-making produces better outcomes is no longer up for debate. For businesses, better decisions mean stronger growth, so it is in their interests to facilitate the path of women from the classroom to the boardroom.
