New US Ambassador lays out priorities

After 17 years experience as a staff member inside the US Senate, Mark Gitenstein has turned a new page in his professional career by accepting the nomination as the new US Ambassador to Romania. Ambassador Gitensteina
He also provided the audience with further details about the means to overcoming the financial crisis, a much-discussed subject under the Obama administration. Finally, he outlined his priorities as Ambassador here, which include support for more American companies developing business in the Romanian market.
Before being appointed as the new US Ambassador to Romania by President Obama, Gitenstein was a fellow at the Brookings Institution, where he specialized in national security and civil liberties. He has a law degree from Georgetown University and was a partner at the Washington office of the multi-national law firm, Mayer Brown LLP.
Ambassador Gitenstein’s great-grandparents emigrated from Romania to US at the end of the nineteenth century, making him the first US Ambassador to Romania with Romanian roots.
