Philip Morris Romania celebrates four years without work-related accidents
At the end of March 2015, Philip Morris Romania celebrated four years and 5.5 million working hours without work-related incidents or accidents, an important record both at national level and within the Philip Morris Group.
The company maintains a solid culture of health and security at the workplace, by involving the almost 600 employees in a series of programs developed under the „Mission Zero” umbrella concept, a global concept launched within the group.
"The Romanian production operations of Philip Morris have stood out at group level through environment, health and safety internal policies (EHS - Environment, Health and Safety). In 2012, our Otopeni facility received an internal award at international group level, for the performance and initiatives taken in these fields”, says Irina Ashukina, Operations Director within Philip Morris Romania. ”The Romanian EHS team is currently considered an EHS expertise group and it provides training and support to other affiliate companies part of Philip Morris International.”
While investing in the production capacities and increasing the production volume exponentially from 2010 to 2014, Philip Morris Romania also created a secure working environment in every department. Therefore, by implementing the ”Safety Culture” concept at local level, the company trained all its employees on health and security at the workplace.
Some of the programs that have contributed to reaching the objective of 5.5 million hours without working accidents are Safety Leadership, dedicated to the management team, EHS Focus Team, that consists of appointing EHS ambassadors in all production departments and Safety Ambassador, that offers office employees the opportunity to get involved in supporting health and security in the production areas. In addition to that, employees of Philip Morris Romania can submit their ideas for improving the workplace security measures on a special recognition and reward platform called OPEN Prize Mission Zero.
This year, Philip Morris Romania plans to continue the employee informing and accidents prevention programs. In 2015, the company aims to exceed 6.5 million working hours with zero accidents, within its Otopeni facility.
