As head of amb Holding Romania, a member of the Austrian consortium amb Holding, Victor Ciupercă continues to look for new investment opportunities. He has been involved in the projects developed by Austrian investor Alfred Michael Beck since 2003, and he currently focuses on consolidating the Austrian group's businesses in Romania.
With dual technical and legal qualifications, Vitor Ciupercă used to work in the IT sector until 2006, when he made a dramatic career change. Targeting projects in agriculture and sustainable development, Austrian businessman Alfred Michael Beck launched amb Holding locally and Victor Ciupercă was appointed as CEO of the Romanian operations. Since then, he has successfully developed a 700-hectare cereal farm in Olt county and a wine-making business, which was added to the holding’s portfolio in 2010. “The winemaking business came our way somewhat unexpectedly, when we were looking for new business opportunities in agriculture and forestry. We were presented with a 14 hectare new vineyard, whose previous owners had been unable to continue the project. As it happens, Mr. Beck is a great wine enthusiast, and so am I, and he quickly accepted the challenge,” said Victor Ciupercă.
He remembers that one sunny day, in March 2010, after the snow had melted away, he arrived in Batos together with the Austrian investor, who was eager to see the plantation and its surroundings. “When we left the county road linking Reghin to Batos we changed the means of transportation. A tractor with trailer picked us up, but Mr. Beck took no notice of the current conditions, focusing on how the place could be transformed. He discretely told me that he thought he had found the place for his first vineyard,” said CEO of amb Holding Romania.
